HC101: Housing Counseling Basics
Monday-Tuesday 8:30am - 4:00pm
If Housing Counselors were surveyed on how housing counseling services should be delivered, there is bound to be a range of varying responses. Although HUD recognizes that the housing counseling program supports the delivery of a wide variety of services, implementation of the program varies from agency to agency. During this training, counselors will discuss the framework of the housing counseling program from HUD’s perspective. The training will cover key elements, starting from the inception of the program while threading together the intended impact and how it remains relevant to the needs of today’s consumer. This training is designed for new counselors with less than five years’ experience in the housing industry.
The training will cover:
- HUDs definition of housing counseling
- Overview of the housing counseling program
- Historical and current setting of the housing counseling industry
- Basic principles of housing counseling
- Responsibilities of Housing Counselors
- 5 key elements of a successful Housing Counselor
This training is designed as a beginner course for new counselors with less than five years of experience in the housing industry. This training is not designed to prepare you to take the HUD exam. For the advance training please take the HC113: Preparing Housing Counselors for the HUD Certification Exam training at the Boise Training Series on June 24-28, 2019.
It is recommended that new housing counselors take both trainings to fully prepare to take the exam.
All training attendees have free access to the 10th Annual Building Alabama Reinvestment Conference 2019 Raising the Bar: Protecting Our Communities on Thursday, May 23, 2019.
More details will be provided in your participant package.
