Event Description

FH201: Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing

Monday & Tuesday 8:30am-4:00pm

Course Description:
In this two-day training, housing counselors and housing professionals will learn about the exciting new opportunities the Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing (AFFH) rule offers in creating inclusive communities. Additionally, participants will learn about their fair housing obligations as housing professionals, and the responsibilities of federal fund recipients and community leaders under the new AFFH rule.

Course Objectives:
This course will focus on housing counselors’ and housing professionals’ responsibility to reach out, serve, and help protect individuals with disabilities, limited English proficiency, or who are within a protected class of the Fair Housing Act. Participants will learn how the Assessment of Fair Housing (AFH) planning process can be used as a powerful tool in creating inclusive communities and affordable, asset-rich housing choices. Every public and private agency that receives housing counseling funding, Community Development Block Grant funds, FHIP or FHAP funds, public housing funding, HOME funds, or related support from the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has an obligation to “affirmatively further fair housing.” Participants will gain practical tools and strategies to work within their communities to end discrimination and build inclusive communities.
