Event Description

WB133: Navigating the Strengths & Challenges of Rural Communities

Live  Webinar

August 20, 2018

Rural communities face their own set of challenges. The housing needs within these communities can be complex and entangled with other competing needs. Those that work outside the boundaries of the rural ecosystem are often unfamiliar with the elements and activities exclusive to its culture. Housing Counselors serving these communities commonly wear many hats, relying on their ability to be resourceful and fill the gaps when services are absent or out of reach. During this webinar we will discuss the strengths and challenges of serving rural communities. The webinar will cover strategies that build on components which contribute to the rural community’s unique character.

  • Identifying strengths of the community
  • Understanding the challenges of working in rural communities
  • Locating housing and other resources
  • Adapting services to fit the needs of the community
  • Being a champion and facilitating the desired narrative
